SALVATION ARMY
COMMISSIONER TO VISIT CARTERTON. Lt.-Commissioner J. Evan Smith will visit Carterton at the weekend in connection with the local Salvation Army’s Golden Jubilee celebrations which commenced today. The Commissioner is the supreme officer in charge of the Salvation Army operations in New Zealand, having arrived from the command of the Wales and the Western Territory of Great Britain just over 12 months ago. The Commission-
er was formerly private secretary to William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, in which capacity he toured the world, including a trip to New Zealand in 1895 and again in 1905. Later he became private secretary to the second General —Bramwell Booth —and altogether completed 23 years service in that position. He also saw several years service in South Africa. On Sunday afternoon next in the King's Theatre. Carterton. the Commissioner will give a lecture entitled "The Private Life of William Booth,” and this should be very interesting.
