TRICK IMPRESSMENT
IMMEDIATE APPEAL NECESSARY. WITHIN 24 HOURS OF GETTING NOTICE. Immediate appeal against truck impressments is necessary, according to advice received by Mr R. H. Williams, Wairarapa Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union, from the Dominion Secretary. Mr O'Shea. "I have to advise,” states Mr O'Shea, '‘that it appears that the .army will have to have more trucks and a drive will be made to endeavour to obtain these. I would urge farmers who receive impressment notices to take action immediately if they wish to appeal. They must appeal within 24 hours of receiving a notice. Otherwise their appeal will not be allowed and 1 would suggest that in any case of hardship farmers get in touch immediately by telephone with the local Licensing Authority and put thencase to him. If they cannot get in touch with him by telephone then they should send a telegram indicating their desire to appeal. But in any case it should be noted that action must be taken within 24 hours."
