The Governor-General , and Lady Newall left Wellington by the Limited express last evening for the north.
Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, arrived at Wellington from Christchurch yesterday. The death has occurred at Waipukurau of a well known resident, Mr Donald Logan Johnston, at the age of 94 years.
Dr McMillan, M.P., was re-elected vice-president of the New Zealand Labour Party, at the annual conference of the party now being held in Wellington. Other candidates were: The Rev C. Carr, M.P., Mr Coleman, M.P., Mr J. O. Johnson, Mr Lowry, M.P., Mr R. Macdonald, Mr Nordmeyer, M.P., Mr O’Brien, M.P., Mr Richards, M.P., and Mr Robertson, M.P. Dr McMillan was elected by a large majority. Mr M. Moohan was reelected national secretary, also by a large majority. His opponents were Mr W. L. Robertson and Mr J. A. Stead. Ballot papers have been issued for the election of the central executive. but the result will not be known till the end of the week. There are 33 candidates for the five seats.
