N.Z. FIRE BRIGADES

ANNUAL DEMONSTRATION. CARTERTON WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday and Monday twelve brigades including Carterton, Eketahuna. Gisborne. Hastings, Havelock North, Lower Hutt, Petone, Pahiatua Spit, Upper Hutt, Waipukurau and Wairda competed in the United District Fire Brigade demonstration held at Wairoa. In the aggregate the Carterton Brigade scored an eight point margin over Pctonc, and won the championship. The following are the results of the various events: —

Cne man coupling: H. Matson (Carterton), 43 2-ssee. 1; Pahiatua A. 45 1-5 sec. 2; Upper Hutt, 46 3-ssec, 3. Two men hose and standpipe event: Petone A. 37 l-ssec, 1; Upper Hutt A 37 2-ssec. 2; Carterton C. 38 2-ssec. 3. Three men disabled hose event: Carterten A. 43 3-ssec, 1; Pahiatua, 48 4-5 sec, 2; Carterton B, 50 l-sscc, 3; Upper Hutt. 50 4-ssec, 4.

Three men straight hose and standpipe: Upper Hutt 1; Carterton A 2: Carterton B 3.

Three men motor event, free for all' Hastings 1; Petone A 2: Carterton A 3

Four men motor event: Hastings 1 Petone 2; Upner Hutt 3. Four men hose and standpipe event Carterton, 37sec. 1: Petone, 38scc, 2 Upper Hutt. 38 4-ssec, 3. Four men motor pump from standpipe event: Petone 1: Carterton 2.

Consolation event: Wairoa 1; Eketahuna 2.
