KOPUARANGA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age" Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute Mrs Jarrett presided over a small attendance of members. Apologies were received from Mesdames O'Connor, Trass, Reside and Miss E. Jarrett. Mrs J. Brophy was appointed delegate to the council meeting on April 30 in place of Mrs Jennings. Mrs Jennings’s resignation as treasurer was received with regret and Mrs Brophy was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mrs Jarrett, Mrs Brophy and Miss Wright were appointed trustees for the Post Office Savings Bank account for the ensuing year.
A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Reside on the death of her father.
The results of the potato growing competition were recorded, but there are still some results to come to hand. Mrs Clarke kindly consented to have the next committee meeting at her residence on May 1.
Mrs and Miss Jarrett will be hostesses for the next general meeting, which will be held at Mrs Jarrett’s residence on May 8. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Jennings and W. J. Cottle.
The results of the monthly competitions were as follow: Child’s petticoat, Miss Wright 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs Jennings 3; best bloom, Miss Wright 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs Jarrett 3. Mrs Jarrett gave an interesting demonstration on making daisy mats. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
