The Secretary of the Interior, Mr Harold Ickes, in an address to the Jewish National Workers' Alliance, said: “The nation is being assailed within by Hitler's policy of preparing the ground before his armies come.” Mr Ickes termed the America First Committee, headed by General Robert Wood, as a “Nazi transmission belt.” Referring to Colonel Lindbergh, Mr Ickes said: “His every act and every word proves that he wants Germany to win."
