GUN BATTLE

IN KENTUCKY MINING AREA FOUR MEN KILLED & OTHERS WOUNDED. ATTACK BY UNION MINERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) MIDDLESBORO (Kentucky), April 15. Tragedy again grimly overshadowed Kentucky's soft coal fields this morning, when four men were killed and about twenty others wounded, in a serious gun battle, in which machine-guns were used. This followed on an attempt by the C. 1.0. United Mine Workers to organise labourers at Forkridge, where mines ,have been operating during a work stoppage at the union coal mines. Fifty carloads of union miners ■ approached the mine at an early morning hour, but were stopped by guards. Fierce fighting then broke out. The dead include Mr C. W. Rhodes, President and General Manager of the company, Mr E. W Silvers, President and Treasurer, and also a dopuly-shor-iff and one Unionist.
