STATE THEATRE

“THE LADY VANISHES.”

One of the most thrilling romances ever brought to the screen, “The Lady Vanishes,” will be shown tonight at the otate Theatre. It is a story which starts, in a small hotel and continues across a continent. Mystery and vivid action hold the attention of the audience throughout in a brilliantly acted drama that provides entertainment of the highest class. “The Lady Vanishes” keeps the audience in suspense as io what is going to happen next, and while full of thrills is not of that type of drama which produces feelings' of horror. A delightful love story threads its way through the picture, and provides occasion for brilliant acting. Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave have roles in which they score triumphs. Difficult as their work is they handle it with that skill for which they are noted in the talkies. Paul Lucas, Dame May Whitty and Cecil Parker also provide acting of a particularly pleasing character. The supporting programme is an excellent one n every respect.

The picture was directed by Mr Alfred Hitchcock, the famous director of Rebecca”' and “Foreign Correspondent.” “THE RETURN OF FRANK JAMES." The management announce that the special attraction. “The Return of/ Frank James,” will be presented on Friday night, and that it has been I showing to crowded houses throughout New Zealand.
