NEW TYPE OF SCOT?
POLISH SOLDIERS CAPTIVATE GIRLS.
A resident of Edinburgh, writing io a friend in Masterton, states: —
“This time we are right in the thick of it. 1 have seen lots of your boys hero: they look a bit bored, people haven't got the food to spare to juvite soldiers to their homes. The men get the lion's share and they have a very nice overseas club here too. The Aussies amuse themselves much better, I was in a train with a crowd of Canadian Tommies, and I fancj 7 they had been sampling our Scotch quite a bit. They got out at every train stop to throw snowballs, even at the policeman on point duty. The young girls have all lost their hearts to the Polish soldiers. They are so courteous, and of course quite different from our Scotchmen. so the girls are getting great thrills when they meet a young Pole, who bows almost to the ground and makes a great sweep of the arm as he holds it out to them. Lots of them are getting married and I think there will be some new type Scotch folk in the next generation.”
