OVERSEAS SERVICE

NEXT BALLOT ABOUT TO BE DRAWN MINISTER’S ANNOUNCEMENT. NO ADVANCE IN TRAINING DATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The next ballot for overseas service will be- held on April 17 and 18, according to a statement made today by the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple. This .ballot will be for the Eighth Reinforcements, and 19,000 names will be drawn. Mr Semple added that it would be necessary to hold a ballot somewhat earlier than otherwise would have been the ease. This does not mean that the men selected will commence training at an earlier date, but merely that they will have’ so much longer notice before commencing training. The ballot would normally have taken place in June. The names of the men selected will appear in an extraordinary “Gazette,” to be issued on May 7.
