STATE THEATRE

“THE MARK OF ZORRO.” “The Mark of Zorro” will be shown again tonight. For what is undoubtedly one of the most famous and colourful of all screen roles—the characterisation that brought Douglas Fairbanks undying fatne—is also the perfect role for Tyrone Power and it marks what is unquestionably the greatest triumph of his career. And Linda Darnell, who is featured opposite him, has never looked lovelier or appeared to greater advantage. The story is the famous and exciting tale of the night-riding masked avenger who flourished in the most exciting days of Old California, leaving behind the jagged sword mark that struck terror to every heart but one, that of the beautiful and gentle senorita who gave him her love. Boasting the most spectacular action and sword play the screen has seen in many a moon, Power’s role is crammed with hard-riding, furious fighting, ardent romance and brought to a climax by an unforgettably realistic duel with Basil Rathbone, who, with Linda Darnell, heads the featured cast. “THE LADY VANISHES.” The change of programme tomorrow night will be headed by the thrilling dramatic offering “The Lady Vanishes,” one of the deepest mysteries and sensational pictures ever brought to the screen.
