LABOUR AND THE WAR

PARTY’S DETERMINATION TO FIGHT FOR VICTORY. HORRORS OF HITLERISM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Its firm resolve to continue in field, factory and workshop to spare no effort in assisting to the full every measure designed to achieve a speedy and victorious peace was expressed by the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party in pts report to the annual conference of the party in Wellington yesterday. “Our comrades brutally crushed in countries where Hitlerism reigns, look co the free Labour Movement in the democratic countries to assist in their deliverance. They will not look in vain,” said the executive. “The magnificent stand of the great Labour movement in Great Britain and the Dominions has given new hope, courage and determination to millions in whose lives the light of hope and faith in a better order of society have been nearly extinguished. “Qur thoughts go out to our kinsfolk in Great Britain in their unflinching stand against the horrors of Hitlerism, which in its murderous onslaught of cold-blooded cruelty spares neither babies, women, invalids, aged people, nor even helpless children on the high seas being evacuated to safety. They endure those horrors to ensure that liberty and democracy will reign not only in England but here in New Zealand. We extend to all who have suffered bereavement our heartfelt sympathy. “To the workers in England, and to our soldiers, sailors and airmen, we send our deepest thanks, for it is due to their unselfish sacrifice that we in this country are able to enjoy the amenities and freedom of a demociatic State. “To those of our party members ana supporters serving with the military forces in all spheres of activity we send fraternal greetings for an early victory and best wishes for a speedy and safe return to the Dominion.
