BUSINESS AT ANNUAL ' CONFERENCE GENERAL ELECTION PLANS. FAREWELL TO MR FRASER. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The 25th annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party, attended by more than 500 delegates, opened in the Town Hall. Wellington, yesterday and will continue till Thursday night. The national president, Mr J. Roberts, is presiding. The conference will consider 1023 remits, grouped under 59 headings. Proceedings are not open to the Press, but statements are being issued after each session.

Yesterday morning delegates were welcomed by the president of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee, Mr J. O. Johnson. Mr Roberts then addressed the conference. The annual report of the national executive was presented by the secretary, Mr M. Moohan. Delegates stood in silence in respect for the memories of members who had died during the year, including the late Prime Minister, Mr Savage. Committees to consider remits and report to the conference were appointed.

A special committee, representing all parts of the Dominion and all sections of the industrial and political Labour movement, was set up to raise funds for the general election campaign. It was announced that the first donation. £2250, had been made by the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union.

In the afternoon and evening New Zealand's present economic position and future economic policy were discussed and recommendations for stabilisation of present prices for essential services and commodities and presentrates of wages and salaries were adopted. The conference will continue today, when the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, will present the annual report of the Parliamentary Labour Party. In the evening there will be a social gathering to farewell Mr Fraser, who will leave soon for Britain.
