STAND IN FRONTIER ZONE

Only Patrol Operations Reported POSITION OF YUGOSLAVIA OBSCURE SUCCESS OVER ENEMY CLAIMED IN SOUTH In Northern Greece, where the main weight of the German attack is expected to fall, clashes are reported between motorised advance units on both sides, the 8.8. C. reports. Here the Germans seem to be preoccupied at the moment with testing the strength of the Allied defence. The R.A.F. has successfully attacked enemy motor columns, a number of vehicles being destroyed. A motor vehicle convoy proceeding towards Valona Harbour was also attacked. During the previous night, enemy aircraft in a raid on a Greek town, lost three aircraft and a number of others were destroyed. There is little news to throw light on the confused position in Yugoslavia. The latest authentic reports state that Yugoslav forces near Nish are resisting and counter-attacking on both sides of the Morava River. In the north-west, on the approaches to Belgrade, the position is less clear. There are London reports that German forces which have reached one or two places near Belgrade have been cut off. According to these reports the district to the south of the capital is being held firmly. In the south, the Yugoslavs have had further success in pushing the Germans back.
