OBSERVER CORPS

GRANTED NEW STATUS IN BRITAIN. (British Ofl’icial Wireless.) RUGBY. April 10. The Observer Corps, which co-oper-ated so efficiently with Royal Air Force fighters in the Battle for Britain, will in future be known as the Royal Observer Corps. The new status has been granted in recognition of the vital part played by this organisation in the air defence system of Britain. Its task is to detect and keep continuous track of every hostile aircraft flying over the country by day or night. The corps consists of more than 30.000 male volunteers.
