ATTACKS ON MALTA

MOUNTING TOTAL OF ENEMY LOSSES

LARGE FORMATION ENGAGED TWO MESSERSCHMITTS SHOT. DOWN. At Malta, two Messerschmitts were shot down and one Junkers plane and two Italian Capronis were also probably destroyed in enemy air attacks. A large formation of enemy planes which appeared over Malta yesterday morning was engaged by fighters and anti-aircraft fire.

The enemy casualties were sustained during two later raids yesterday. In activities against Malta the enemy has now lost 132 planes confirmed as having been destroyed, 44 probably destroyed and 58 damaged. The British have lost 29 fighters, with ten pilots safe.
