FOR THE HOUSEWIFE
SOME USEFUL HINTS. To iron a blouse sleeve without leaving a crease, put a rolling-pin inside the sleeve before pressing. Add a teaspoonful of vinegar and 2 dessertspoonfuls of sugar or golden syrup when boiling salt meat. This improves the flavour. To remove iron mould from clothes, mix lemon juice and salt and apply to the marks, then hold over the steam of a boiling kettle.
For a tasty dish dip a bacon rasher in fairly thick batter, then fry till a golden brown and serve with fried egg and a ring of tomato dipped in the batter and fried. This will be found to be a very tasty dish.
Straw mattings will last longer if given a coat of varnish. . Smear patent leather shoes with vaselin or olive oil and leave overnight, then polish with a soft rag in the morning. Chiffon can be cut easily if the scissors are dipped in hot water for a few seconds before cutting.
