EKETAHUNA

ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the executive committee of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club was held on Tuesday evening. The president (Mr S. Daniel) presiding over a full attendance of members. The secretary, Mr C. Hausman, presented the balance sheet of the recent Sports Day, which showed a profit of £ll4 5s 2d. In moving the adoption of the balance sheet Mr Daniel said that the result was most gratifying. He thanked the members of the committee for the excellent work done before and during the day. He also paid a tribute to the Eketahuna Ladies’ Committee and the Pahiatua Patriotic Entertainers for the splendid assistance rendered. The secretary also deserved a special vote of thanks for his energetic work and also for the promptness with which he had brought out the balance sheet.'

Mr R. Payne seconded the report which was adopted. As the sports were held in aid of the two local Patriotic Committees —the Eketahuna Borough and Eketahuna Ladies’ Committee, the allocation of the profit was then made, the Eketahuna Ladies’ Committee receiving £64 5s 2d and the Eketahuna Borough, £5O.

RETURNED SOLDIERS

MONTHLY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna R.S.A. there were present: Messrs A. B. Fordyce (chairman), A. H. Herbert, M. Shale, W. Hornblow, Tredray, W. Pryde, C. Cooper, A. Golder, C. Bowyer, C. McLaughlan, A. Chambers, M. Morris, L. Russell and S. Daniel.

The secretary reported that the nominal roll closed with 73 financial members.

The Eketahuna branch of the W.D.F.U. wrote inviting members, their wives and families to afternoon tea in the Anglican schoolroom at the conclusion of the Anzac Day service. It was decided that a letter of thanks be forwarded to the W.D.F.U. for the invitation. X

Several matters regarding Anzac Day were finalised. The Home Guard is to be asked to-co-operate with the R.S.A. this year. The service will be held in the Town Hall at 1.30 p.m. The Revs. I. K. Hopper and D. McNeur are to be asked to assist at the service, and the appointment of a speaker was left to Messrs Fordyce and Shale to arrange. The parade of returned men and Homo Guard will fall in at the Memorial grounds at 1.15 p.m. It was decided that the annual Poppy Day be held on April 17, and that the following ladies be asked to assist with the town sales: Mesdames C. Albrechtson, S. aniel, AV. Curry, Misses N. Greathead and Anderson. It was decided to hold the annual reunion on May 10 and the annual meeting on May 21. Mr V/. Hornblow was appointed the branch’s delegate to the annual conference at Wellington.

Mr S. Daniel was appointed the local correspondent for “Reo Mikl,”- a paper .being published quarterly by the R.S.A. and sent to soldiers serving overseas.

The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr H. Smith in his illness.

Motor Car Damaged.

While Mr and Mrs H. Hirst, of Konini, and their daughter, were proceeding towards Pahiatua on Friday night, a towering sheep crate lorry hit the right side of the car, the rear window being shattered to pieces. Fortunately, the occupants escaped injury. Police investigations resulted in the arrest of a local carrier. Vincent Frederick Norman Capes, who appeared before Mr H. E. Greathead, J.P., in the S.M. Court and was remanded to appear at Pahiatua on Wednesday.
