TWO ATTACKS
MADE BY NAZI RAIDERS ON COVENTRY CASUALTIES FEWER THAN WAS FEARED. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO PROPERTY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, April 9. The enemy raiders delivered a double attack on Coventry, the first being short and sharp. Thousands of incendiary bombs were dropped. The second atack was longer. This time many high explosives fell. The raid was of considerable intensity. Casualties are fewer than was feared, though there is extensive damage to property. A German communique says: “Hundreds of our bombers, attacked the South of England and Midlands, the main attack being against Coventry. Thousands of high explosive and incendiary bombs caused heavy destruction and also numerous fires in Portsmouth. The enemy last night carried out coastal flights over occupied territories. The main attack was against Kiel, where, apart from some industrial damage, there was considerable destruction in residential districts. A fairly large number of people -were killed and wounded."
