KILLED INSTANTLY
MAN KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAM IN WELLINGTON. RESIDENT OF PONGAROA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Head injuries causing instantaneous death were received by a man aged about 50 when he was struck by a tram in Lambton Quay. Wellington, at 7.55 o’clock last night. Though his identity had not been established at a late hour he is believed to have been a resident of Pongaroa, near Danhevirke. The accident occurred near the Bank of New Zealand. The man was crossing the street toward Barrett's Hotel when he was struck by a tram travelling in the direction of Willis Street. He was taken by the police to the city morgue. Visability at the locality of the accident has been lessened at night since the blackout precautions have been in operation.
The Pongaroa police reported this morning that the victim of the accident was believed to be Mr Henry Tait, aged 60 years, a shepherd employed by Mr Reg. Humphries. He was a single man and had resided in the Pongaroa district for some years.
