FIFTEEN BOMBERS

LOST BY THE GERMANS SEVEN SHOT DOWN ON TUESDAY NIGHT. HEAVY RAID ON COVENTRY. The Germans have lost fifteen ' bombers since Monday, the 8.8. C. reports. Two were shot down by fighters yesterday morning, and seven on Tuesday night, six by night fighters. Anti-aircraft guns have claimed their 500th plane. Coventry was attacked by the enemy on Tuesday night. Considerable damage was caused, and the casualties are likely ot be heavy. Two German planes were shot down by destroyers yesterday, and one by a fighter off the Channel coast.

MIDLANDS ATTACKED SHOWERS OF INCENDIARY BOMBS. CASUALTIES AND DAMAGE IN COVENTRY. LONDON. April 9. The main enemy air attack on Britain last night was directed against the Midlands. It was heavy on Coventry and lasted several hours. Considerable damage was done, and it is feared that casualties may be heavy. Showers of incendiary bombs, followed by high explosive bombs, were rained down. Magnificent work was done by the fire fighters. London had an alert, but no bombs are reported to have been dropped on the city or suburbs. The Air Ministry states that an enemy bomber was shot down by antiaircraft fire last night, making a total of seven enemy aircraft destroyed during the night. It is now known that on Monday night an enemy bomber also was destroyed by anti-aircraft fire off the north-east coast, making six aircraft in all destroyed that niglil.
