Frost in Masterton. A frost of 6.5 degrees was registered in Masterton this morning.

National Party Caucus. A caucus of Parliamentary members of the National Party is to be held in Wellington next Wednesday. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, who will preside, is expected to arrive in Wellington from Christchurch on Tuesday.

Magistrate's Court. At a sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning, judgment for the plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil case:—Commissioner of Taxes v. William Arthur, claim £l7 12s 4d, costs £1 4s. From Butter to Cheese. Amended regulations were gazetted last night authorising farmers to transfer their production from a creamery to a cheese factory. Hitherto the permission of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture had to be obtained.

Read Visibility. Regarding visibility at the junction of the Paierau-Matahiwi roads, which was discussed at this week's meeting of the Masterton County Council, councillors did not admit that visibility was bad. as there was a clear view of the road behind the hedge on the actual corner, for half a mile before the corner was reached. Notwithstanding that view, the council was prepared to see if il were possible and practicable to make further, improvement, having regard to all the circumstances. New Zealand Patriotic Fund.

Receipts paid into the account of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund up to April 4 last totalled £1,570,000. Of that amount. £BOO,OOO camo from provincial patriotic funds and the balance from the national fund, which includes £591.000 from the Sick and Wounded Fund. The board, which now makes no appeals for funds as il has been found simpler for the 11 patriotic councils to do so, seeks £152.250 to finance its activities for the current year. The Wellington province, whose quota is approximately one-fifth, has been called on to provide £30.907. Democratic Labour Party.

There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Democratic Labour Party. The president Mr. E. J. Esler. was in the chair, and welcomed several visiting members one from as far north as Auckland. Three now members were enrolled. A report from the committee which was set up to investigate the rising cost ol living, was received and a spirited discussion followed. On the next meeting night all members will have an opportunity to air their views on the meat question and how it will affect the workers of New Zealand.
