AIONTHLY MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT REPRESENTATIVE ON COLLEGE BOARD. MR A. OWEN JONES REAPPOINTED The monthly meeting or the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last night, the chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presiding. There were also present: Messrs E. G. Eton, A. Owen Jones, C. E. Grey, J. Macfarlane Laing, H. H. Daniell, J. H. Handyside and R. Krahagen. An apology for absence was received from Mr R. Page.
The secretary of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors notified the Trust that the period of office of Mr Jones as the Trust's representative on the beard had expired by effluxion of time on March 31 and asked for a nominee for the next two years. Mr Jones was unanimously reappointed as the Trust’s representative, members stating that they were very well satisfied with Mr Jones’s work on the board.
Stating that a deputation from the Master ton West Free Kindergarten would be waiting on the Trust at the June meeting, with reference to seeking Trust assistance towards the erection of a free kindergarten, the chairman said he understood, according to the Trust Act, the Trust could help established schools only and could not contribute towards building a school. That point would have to be looked into.
An application came before the Trust from the Home Guard for permission to use the stage of the Opera House for the purposes of physical training, the lighting to be paid for by local bodies. It was agreed that a trial be given under the supervision of the Trust’s architect in order to ascertain what effect such training might have on the staging. If the architect’s report proved satisfactory it was agreed to meet the request subject to the following conditions: Lighting to be paid for by local bodies, no smoking to be permitted in the building, the building to be left tidy after training, that the hall was not required for usual letting purposes on training nights. , Mr Daniell raised the question as to whether the Trust’s property, including the piano, might not be damaged and asked if any other place was available. x . It was explained that no otner ru.ll was available and that it would be a great convenience to use die Opeia House, as it was alongside the Drill Hall. The Trust’s architect had given an assurance to watch tne mteiests of the Trust regarding the possibility of damage to the staging. A report by Mr W. Kemp regarding plantations on Trust property in Pownall Street was referred to a committee previously set up. The treasurer reported: No. 1 account, credit, 1-1080 12s 3d; No. 2 account, £324 7s 9d; No. 3 account credit, £49 ss. Accounts totalling £.w 14c lid were passed.
