NAVY LEAGUE
MASTERTON BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The twenty-third annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon. There were present: Mesdames A. Caselberg, S. R. Gawith, P. H. Nathan, J. M. James. A. H. Daniell, T. Jordan, W. A. Michael, P. J. Borthwick, C. Deans. W. H. Robieson, D. Buchanan, E. G. Norman, J. V. Gordon, H. E. Pither, T. R. Barrer, J. C. Forsyth, N. Miller, L. B. Maunsell and the Misses Cameron, Guild and A. Sellar. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames O. A. Bunny, S. Fletcher, H. McKenzie Douglas, W. G. Lamb, R. C. Drummond, H. K. Mclntosh, H. M. Boddington, E. C. White, J. Caselberg, C. C. Jackson and Misses B. Vallance, Gray and McLaren.
The report and balance sheet were adopted.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs S. R. Gawith; vice-presidents, Mesdames A. H. Daniell, R. C. Drummond, A. Caselberg, J. V. Gordon, T. Jordan, W. H. Robieson, O. A. Bunny, G. C. Williams, D. Buchanan, H. McKenzie Douglas, and Misses Cameron and B. Vallance; general executive committee, Mesdames P. J. Borthwick, W. R, Birch, C. Deans, S. Fletcher, J. C. Forsyth. D. M. Graham, J. M. James. C. C. Jackson, W. G. Lamb, H. K. McIntosh, W. A. Michael, E. G. Norman, P. H. Nathan, F. Whitton, E. C. While, and the Misses Daniell and J. McLaren and one junior member; lion, Miss C. Cameron; hon. auditor, Mr A. D. Low; secretary. Miss A. Sellar. The present wool committee was reelected; the food committee was reelected with the addition of Mrs A. H. Daniell, and the advisory committee was re-elected with the addition of Miss Cameron.
Mrs A. Caselberg was re-elected Navy League representative on the Mayoress's Patriotic Committee. Several new members were enrolled and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr L. B. Maunsell -for becoming a life member and to Miss Gray for becoming a life associate. These generous subscriptions will be a great help in providing comforts for seamen. < It was decided that local men joining the Royal Navy of Fleet Air Arm, should be equipped with comforts by the Navy League Wool Committee. Mrs Borthwick, convenor of the Food Committee, expressed a hope that members would continue their monthly contributions of tinned foods for men overseas, and also that they would assist the packing by leaving parcels at Mr Borthwick's office several days before the second Tuesday in each month. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to Mr A. D. Low for auditing the books, Mr J. V. Gordon for receiving subscriptions, Mr J. E. Jenkins for carrying goods free of charge, Mrs Reid for the gift of a cake which was raffled, the management of the Midland Hotel for the use of the lounge as a wool depot, Mr P. J. Borthwick for receiving parcels at his office, Messrs Dalgety and Co. for providing cases and help with packing, the Wairarapa Carriers’ Association for carrying cases to the railway station, Mi R. H. Williams and his office staff for much help, to all those members and friends who had donated garments and tinned foods, and to the Press. At a meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Navy League a vote of sympathy was passed to the of Mrs R. F. R. Beetham, who a member of the committee many years. ____________
