SCUTTLING OF SHIPS IN PACIFIC. CANADIAN MINISTER'S STORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) TORONTO, April 7. The Minister of the Navy, Mr. Angus L. MacDonald, disclosed today that a Canadian armed merchant cruiser had intercepted two German ships, the Hermenthis and the Muenchcn. in the Pacific Ocean and that these ships, in the good German way. had scuttled themselves. Speaking in an address to a Service club, he said the incident occurred not very long ago. but he could not give the date or the exact location. He continued: "When Canadian sailors found they were unable to extinguish the fires on the vessels, they were sunk. They are now lying at the bottom of the Pacific, and while they are no good to us. they are no good io Germany cither.” ■
