HURRICANES SHOOT DOWN MESSERSCHMITTS. ENEMY PLANE BROUGHT DOWN IN ATHENS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) RUGBY. April 7. A British headquarters Athens communique states: “A small formation of Hurricane fighters, on patrol in the Rupel Pass area of Bulgaria, yesterday encountered a large formation of German Messerschmitt 109 fighters and in the ensuing combat five enemy aircraft were definitely shot down and a number of others severely damaged. -A formation of R.A.F. bombers carried out a successful raid on military objectives at Berat, in Albania. "A single enemy aircraft, carrying cut a reconnaissance in the Athens area, war, shot down in flames. “From all these operations all our aircraft returned safely.”
