MADE BY THE GREEKS

In Defence of Frontiers NO IMPORTANT GAINS BY GERMANS IN TWO DAYS BRITISH IMPERIAL FORCES READY TO GO INTO ACTION A Greek communique, broadcast by the states that the German attack continues with the same violence and is being resisted by small Greek forces. The evacuation of part of Thrace is proceeding in a regular manner. In Albania a Greek attack resulted in the capture of 500 prisoners. The Athens radio states that in spite of the heavy German attack, in which the Germans are using parachute troops, the Greeks are straightening their lines and have counter-attacked. The enemy is throwing in what seems to be an interminable number cf German divisions towards the Struma Valley and an area further east, supported by hundreds of planes, tanks, heavy and light artillery. The strength of the Greek resistance caused the Germans some surprise. German parachute troops are being rounded up. A Swiss report states that at the end of the second day, the Germans had not captured a single strategic point along the whole of the Yugoslav and Greek frontiers. A Reuter message from Athens states that the British Imperial forces are already in camp throughout the country and that base organisations have now been well established. All the troops are very fit and ready to go into action immediately.
