PETAIN BROADCASTS
OBLIGATIONS TO BRITAIN ADMITTED - I BUT ADMIRAL DARLAN'S THREAT APPROVED. ATTACK ON FREE FRENCH MOVEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.55 a.m.) VICHY. April 7. Appealing for national unity, Marshal Petain, broadcasting, referred to Admiral Darlan's threat to convoy French ships going to France. He said: "It is a matter of honour for us to do nothing against our former ally, but the necessary provisioning of a country imposes a sacred duly upon us. Admiral Darlan has my entire confidence. We have no other cause to defend except France's and fidelity to France means standing by the Government.” Marshal Petain attacked the Free French movement.
