MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY DANCE. (“Times-Age" Special.) At the Mauriceville West Hall, the Women’s Institute, on the occasion of its 6th birthday, held a dance in aid of the Soldiers’ Parcels Fund. Th” function was enjoyable and the financial result was gratifying to the ladies concerned. Excellent music was provided by Mr. Jack West. A popular feature was the complete home-made supper provided by the ladies of the Institute and helpers. The president. Miss R. Mortensen, suitably thanked all present for thensupport. and briefly outlined the purpose for which the dance was hold. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr P. Condon and Miss M. Trass. The duties of M.C. were carried ou* by Mr. D. Johansen. At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institue, Miss R. Mortensen presided. Mrs. King gave an interesting address on the ways and means oC maintaining health and the guarding against possible sickness and the care of patients. The “Bring and Buy” Stall, under the control of Mrs. R. Neilson, was well supported. Mesdames J. L. McArley and King were appointed delegates to the conference to be held in Masterton this month. Mrs J. A. Baine reported that parcell- - been prenared and despatched to the local soldiers at present serving overseas. The apple iellv competition resulted as follows: Mrs. G. Neilson 1, Mrs. J. A. Baine 2. Miss J. Larsen 3. Bost bloom: Mi's. G. Osborne 1. Miss F. Mortensen 2, Miss J. Larsen 3. At. the next meeting, the Roll CaP will be “Sing. Say or Pay Threepence," and the provision of an aHicle for the “Bring and Buy Stall.” The competition will be for the best article made from a 251 b. flour bag. Afternoon lea was served by the hostesses Mesdames G. Osborne, G. Neilson and Miss J. Larsen. Personal. Mr. M. R. Lawton a former stationmaster at Mauriceville and Mrs. Lawton. are at present the guests of Mi-, and Mi's. J. W. Milner.
