! STEPS TO ENSURE PROTECTION. STUDY OF CONSERVATION. ' “That, in view of the fact that vandalism in public reserves, beaches and national parks is still common among ’ young people, the Minister of Education bo requested to draw the attention of all teachers to the desirability of including a study of conservation in the school course in citizenship." This remit was carried at the conference of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. It is felt by the institute that special attention should be paid to such a topic as the care of public property, immediately prior to the school vacations. Whilst not unmindful of the large amount of instruction, along these lines, already been given by some teachers, it is urged that all teachers should be encouraged to make such instruction universal. : In acknowledging the above remit.! the Minister of Education states: “I j have to say that I approve the suggestion that the study of conservation be included in the school course in citizenship. In this connection suitable instruction is already being given in a number of the schools. The attention of all teachers will, however, be drawn to the need for featuring this important, topic in the lessons in civics. It is my wish that. 1 the schools should take an active part in promoting measures for the protection of public properly.”
