The Secretary of War, Mr. H. L. Stimson, told the Press that the strike situation generally was “getting worse” and warned interested parties that they must not mistake patience for weakness on the Government’s part. In reply to a question, Mr. Stimson said the War Department was equipped to operate the Allis Chalmers plant but not necessarily with civil service employees. The Federal Court issued a temporary injunction enjoining C. 1.0. and United Automobile Workers to refrain from interfering with workers wishing to return to their jobs at the Ford Motor Company’s River Rouge plant.
