PROBLEM IN BRITAIN
INCREASE IN JUVENILE DELINQUENCY OUTCOME OF DISTURBED CONDITIONS. VALUE OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 3. At a. conference held at the Home Office to discuss the problem of juvenile delinquency, the Permanent Undersecretary referred to the marked increase in the number of boys and girls coming bfore juvenile courts since the war broke out. The conference placed particular emphasis on the need for enforcing regular fulltime attendance at school and for more and more varied types of clubs and centres for boys and girls, both for those of school age and for those who have left school and are at work. The conference particularly welcomed, as one of the best methods of meeting the immediate problem, steps which are being taken by local authorities and voluntary organisations to enable young people to express' themselves in service to the nation, and the growing development of local youth service ’ corps was particularly noticed and welcomed.
