TYPHUS OUTBREAK

SERIOUS EPIDEMIC IN SPAIN. THREE HUNDRED CASES IN MADRID. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MADRID, April 3. Three hundred cases of typhus have been registered in Madrid. Already there have been 27 deaths. Between 20 and 30 new cases are occurring daily. Typhus is also reported in Granada, Murcia, Seville and Almeria. Tis is the most serious epidemic in Madrid since the beginning of the century, not because of the number of cases, but because of the circumstances in which it has arisen—the civil war’s aftermath resulting in malnutrition and scarcity of many things, including soap.
