FEATHERSTON

HOME GUARD SUCCESSFUL PARADES. (“Times-Age" Special.) Commander Hayes reports that the daylight parade held on Sunday last was well attended. The Guard's paraded at the Featherston Town Hall at 10 o’clock when a church service, was conducted by the Rev R. S. Keenan. Marching to Boar Bush Gully, the lest of the day was taken up with field exercises. Another daylight paiade will be held at an early date. At the parade last night rifle drill was engaged in and the men, numbering about 45, are rapidly becoming proficient in this branch of the operations. The last 30 minutes of the parade was devoted to physical drill. The Pihautea settlers decided some weeks ago to organise a branch of the Home Guard in that district, and between 40 and 50 men have already joined up. Mr C. Bargh, who is a returned soldier, with two sons on active service, has been elected commander, and this augurs well for the success of the unit. Many of the Pihautea settlers are returned soldiers, and their training and experience of 25 years ago will be valuable to the Home Guard. The Pihautea unit is so far acting in close collaboration with the Featherston Home Guard, and as soon as opportunity offers, joint training will be undertaken. Euchre Party.
