STRIKE IN MELBOURNE

MILK DELIVERIES HELD UP. • ‘By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. April 2. No milk was delivered to householders in Melbourne today and there are no prospects of an early settlement of -the strike. Householders had to collect supplies themselves from dairies. . Some dairy proprietors who attempted deliveries were turned back by' the pickets but no actual violence occurred. Drivers volunteered to deliver milk to the hospitals and institutions. Several incidents occurred in the suburbs between pickets and police but there was nothing serious and the men's behaviour was orderly. It is believed that the dairy proprietors recognise the justice of the men's claim but say it is impossible at present because of the labour shortage.
