ONE WOMAN ENTERTAINER

THE WORLD’S GREATEST. GRACIE FIELD’S TRIUMPH. Gracie Fields proved she still is the world’s greatest one-woman entertainer at San Francisco Opera House recently when she packed the house with 4,000 customers and grossed £1,500 in what was called the most sensational “one-nightstand" in the history of San Francisco. She gave the concert for the British War Relief Fund. The biggest favourite was “The Biggest Aspidistra in the World.” When she reached the chorus the audience stood and roared with her: “We're going to ’ang old Ttler from the very highest limb of the biggest aspidistra in the world." Miss Fields also sang “Last Time I Saw Paris,” “The Woodpecker Song,” "God Bless America,” and closed with “There'll Always be an England,” in which the audience joined whole-heartedly.
