Miss C. Mardon, o£ Napier, is the guest of Mrs W. Fergus, Ruawhata. Mrs R. E. Jones, Wellington, is a visitor to Masterton. Canon and Mrs W. S. Bean, Christchurch, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday. Mrs Dobbie, Motueka, is visiting her mother, Mrs J. Carpenter, Dixon Street, Masterton. The many friends of Mrs R. H. Wilkin, Mauriceville, will regret to learn that she is 'at present an inmate of Glenwood Private Hospital, Masterton. Mrs L. J. Heayns has been elected president of Mangainutu Women’s Institute, Miss M. Daldy secretary, and Mrs S. Judd treasurer. Well known for her association with St. John's Parish and her church work, Miss Ethel Maud Gurr has died in Napier Public Hospital. She was one of a family of 10 and was born in Launceston. Tasmania, coming to New Zealand at the age of 12 and residing in Featherston and Invercargill, where she was educated. For a time Miss Gurr 'was engaged in school teaching, later becoming post mistress in Toko, Taranaki, from which post she retired some 23 years ago. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs Wilcocks (Napier) and Mrs Kinbell (Te Hakau), and two brothers, Messrs Tasman Gurr (Napier) and Norman L. Gurr (Kaitaia, North Auckland). Her elder brother, Judge E. W. Gurr (Pago Pago), died about nine years ago.
