VATICAN PROTEST

AGAINST NAZI STATE “RELIGION” BASED SOLELY ON HITLER’S WILL. APPEAL TO CATHOLICS , IN GERMANY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright i (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, March 30. An appeal to Catholic Germany to awake in face of the pagan tendencies which the Nazi regime was spreading in German-occupied territories was made by the Vatican radio today. The announcer declared that the religious situation in Germany was highly unsatisfactory and condemned the Nazi attitude to the church. “The threat of a State religion,” he said, “hangs over all religious life in German-occupied territories. This State religion is solely based on the Fuehrer’s will and is the only religion he -wants in the State. A State church has been formed in countries incorporated with the Reich. In Alsace, Austria and Sudeten Germany these tendencies are being, enforced in an extreme degree—these countries are to be the model for the “spiritual structure of the remainder.”
