DARING AIRMAN

LANDING ON ENEMY AERODROME UNDER HEAVY ARTILLERY FIRE. IN ORDER TO RESCUE FLIGHT COMMANDER. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 29. The D.S.O. has been awarded to a South African pilot, Lieutenant Kershaw, who rescued his flight commander from an Italian aerodrome at Diredawa, where the latter was compelled to make a forced landing in the course of an attack. Lieutenant Kershaw immediately went to his assistance. He landed on the aerodrome under heavy artillery fire and picked up his flight commander, who flew the aircraft back to the base while sitting on Lieutenant Kershaw’s knee.
