WAR CORRESPONDENT

MR. J. H. HALL RESIGNS. TO TAKE UP ARMY POSITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. March 30. Confirmation of the report that Mr: J. H. Hall had resigned from the position of official war correspondent and historian with the Second N.Z.E.F. was given in an interview by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones.' Mr. Hall, who was assistant director of publicity in the Dominion before receiving the appointment as correspondent, left with the Second Echelon, which was diverted to England. He has now joined the army with the rank of captain and been appointed public relations officer. “The official war correspondent and historian is now Mr. R. T. Miller,” said Mr. Jones. A former Auckland journalist, Mr. Miller left New Zealand as a private with the First Echelon and after doing publicity work with the force in Egypt, he was officially appointed war correspondent in the Middle East. The Government does not propose appointing a second correspondent. “The Government has not decided to appoint an official artist with the Expeditionary Force,” Mr. Jones said in reply to a suggestion that the appointment of Mr. A. A. Deans, a New Zealand artist with the First Echelon, who had sent back a fine collection of Egyptian paintings, was being considered.
