BOWLING
<>- MASTERTON CLUB. CHAMPION FOURS. (Notes by “The Bowler.") Yesterday afternoon the part finals of the club's champion fours was played. between F. Davey, L. Dorset,, L. Hughes and E. W. Nielson (s) and J. Hunter, D. Thomson, W. Hendry and W. Christian (s). A large number of bowlers were present to witness the game and I am sure they were not disappointed as both teams played excellent bowls, there being many fine heads. The finish was- most exciting, as on the 20th head Nielsen was one up. On the final head, when the skips went down Christian was lying 3. Nielsen drove and tool: one bowl out, leaving Christian the winner by one point. The green was 'in excellent order, although on account-of the recent rains it was on the slow side. As Nielsen had two lives the teams will meet again to decide the final. On the fifth head, Nielsen had a lead of five points, but on the Sth the scores' were, Nielsen 11, Christian 10. Christian obtained the lead by 3 points on the 11th head, and on the 16 th still had a lead of two points, the score board showing, Christian 17, Nielsen 15. On the 17th head, Nielsen scored six points, giving him a lead of four, and this was increased to five on the 18th head. Nielsen was now-five up with only three heads to play, but on the 20th head the scores were. Nielsen 22, Christian 21. On the last head. Christian scored the. necessary two points for a win. Bowlers are looking forward to the final game with interest.
