THIS “ONE MAN”

GARIBALDI'S CURSE RECALLED. That stern old warrior-statesman. Garibaldi, in. a letter of thanks addressed to the men of Newcastle in 1854, acknowledging the present of a sword, wrote: "England i.s a great and powerful nation, foremost in human progress, enemy to despotism, the only safe refuge for the exile, friend of the oppressed; and if ever England should be circumstanced as to require the help of any ally, cursed be the Italian who would not step forward in her defence.” Truly it looks as if 'Mussolini was already feeling that curse coming over him and it seems to be affecting a part of the Italian nation which he has egged on or driven into war much against the wish of the Italian nation as a whole. This "one man." as Mr Churchill said, is responsible for all this, which means in the very near future the defeat of Italy. I remember, states a correspondent in a South African paper, when this "one man" began his shouting from a soap box at a great, meeting in Italy. Many were enraged at what he said even then, and a woman pulled out a revolver and fired at him. The bullet, just knocked the skin off the end of his nose. If that shot had only been true it would have saved thousands of lives.
