Mr A. M. Ongley has been reelected president of the Manawatu Rugby Union. The death has occurred at' the ago of 72 of Mr George Hogg, of Nelson. He spent all his life in Nelson and was a prominent sportsman, whose interests extended over a wide range. He took a keen interest in horse racing, being an executive member of the Nelson Jockey Club, and was a past chairman of the Nelson Trotting Club. The presentation, of a silver tea service and tray was made yesterday afternoon to Miss Edith Stidolph by Mr. J. Bradbury and staff, on the eve of her leaving the firm’s employment. Mr. Bradbury and other speakers expressed their best wishes to Miss Stidolph, whose marriage is to take place next month. The funeral of the late Mr T. M. O’Connor took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, there being a large attendance of mourners. The Rev. Father Dillon officiated at St. Patrick's Church and at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were in evidence. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. Wallace, Burt. H. Sewell. A. McCauley, T. O'Connor and R. Rich. The death has occurred of Mr Thomas Sanderson Dobson. Hastings. He was well known in the building trade and for a number of years served on the borough council. Mr Dobson was born in Galashiels, Scotland, in 1873, and Igft Britain when a young man. He settled in Australia, where he travelled about as a Salvation Army captain. About 40 years ago he came to New Zealand, and after a brief visit to Fiji he returned to take up residence in Hastings, where he established himmself as a building contractor.
At the termination of the meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club which was held at Mr Hare’s residence last night, a presentation was made to Mr S. McLaughlin who has acted as secretary for the past year. In handing Mr McLaughlin a cigarette case on behalf of the club Mr J. Bradbury referred to the competent and cheerful manner in which the late secretary had discharged his duty and wished him success in the Air Force, of which he is now a member. Mr S. D. Geary (treasurer) also endorsed the president’s remarks. Mr McLaughlin suitably replied and predicted a very prosperous season for the club. Several toasts were honoured including that of the newly formed North Island Greyhound Association, to which the club is now affiliated.
