MAURICEVILLE

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AGRICULTURAL PLOTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) (Many individual agricultural plots are at present being inspected and points will be awarded for neatness, variety of crops and evidence of general enthusiasm displayed by the children of Mauriceville East School in connection with this school agricultural scheme. Learn to Swim. The children have profited considerably by the facilities afforded them by the Wellington Education Board. Many private car owners have, during the present season, kindly conveyed the children to the swimming baths and it is believed a fair percentage will terminate this season by receiving appropriate certificates. Red Cross. The annual meeting of the sub-centre of the Red Cross Association was fairly well attended. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs A. Forsberg; vice-president, Mrs Trass, Senr; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. A. Baine; district representatives. Mesdames J. Milner (Mauriceville East), H. Trass, Senr (Mauriceville West) and E. Dagg (Ihuraua). On Saturday evening, March 15, Dr H. B. Berney commenced a series of five fortnightly lectures on general first aid practice and it is hoped that this introduction will bring about enthusiatic support during the period of the course. Everyone, young and old, should benefit by taking advantage of the facilities made available. Three emergency first aid boxes have been established at Mauriceville, Mauriceville West and at Ihuraua. Farewell Gathering. Last evening the ladies of the local Croquet Club met together for the purpose of bidding au revoir to Mrs G. Kent, who is leaving the district to reside in the Hutt Valley. A presentation was made to Mrs Kent by her fellow club members and the interest that had always been displayed by Mr and Mrs Kent in local movements, including patriotic activities, was referred to. Personal. Miss P. Nikolaisen is at present on a short holiday at Ormondville. Miss Bessie James of Wellington is spending the weekend with her sister. Mrs J. A. Baine.
