GREYTOWN
BOWLING CLUB CHAMPION FOURS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A start was made on Wednesday evening with the final of the club champion fours. Conditions were very unpleasant, and only half the board was played, the score standing at 9 all. If the present conditions continue the Wairarapa competition will probably have to be postponed for a week. The local rinks were: Wallace. Bunny, Kilgour, McLeod (s); Kiernan, Dewhirst. Sheddon, Kennings (s). MAORI QUEEN MASTERTON PARTY ASSIST. A Masterton Maori Concert Party journeyed to Greytown on Wednesday evening, and gave an excellent performance in the town hall. The proceeds go ‘to the Maori Queen’s candidate (Miss Susie Pirere). During the evening Miss Pirere made her appearance in full Maori dress, Maori mat included. The Maoris gave some excellent displays of poi dances, hakas, etc. The Greytown Girl Guides assisted their items being well rendered. Mr. E. Kingi acted as announcer for the Maoris. Miss Royce Drysdale, the youngest Guide, acted as announcer for the Girl Guides. Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. N. Langford will leave on a holiday tour on Monday. Aircraftsman K. Langford is expected to arrive in Grey town today on leave from Blenheim. Mr. and Mrs. M. Greathead have returned home after a holiday spent in the north. Extra Firemen Required. As it is necessary to increase the strength of the Greytown Fire Brigade as a war measure ex-members and young men are to be asked to join up.
