CAMPAIGN FOR ARMY CANDIDATE TOMORROW’S FINAL EFFORT. GALA SHOP DAY AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS. As a grand finale, the Army Queen Committee has arranged a gala shop day tomorrow at the tank and various stalls in Queen Street throughout the day and in the evening from 7 to 10 o’clock, at the Municipal Hall. The committee wishes it known that the public will be able to purchase anything and everything for weekend requirements at the Army Queen stalls. To all Army supporters the committee extends its sincere appreciation for the unstinted support accorded it in its efforts to put the Army Queen (Miss Marion Holdsworth) at the head of the poll tomorrow. AIR FORCE QUEEN TONIGHT’S FUNCTION CANCELLED Owing to the weather conditions, the function that was to be held at the residence of Mr. J. A. Betts, South Road, this evening, is cancelled. The committee wish to again thank Mr. and Mrs. Betts in offering to open their gardens for public exhibition, and regrets that the weather conditions necessitate cancellation. SHOP DAY. RANGITUMAU’S EFFORT. The Rangitumau branch of the Women’s Division had charge of the Air Raid Shelter yesterday, when a shop day was conducted in the interests of the Air Force Queen (Miss Jose Hosking). An excellent result was achieved and those who were responsible are to be congratulated for so fine an effort to swell the Air Force Funds. TOMORROW’S BIG DAY. THE FINAL PROCEEDINGS. Commencing at 9 a.m. tomorrow, a gigantic shop day is to be held at the Air Raid Shelter. Produce of all kinds will be offered and a big day is expected. Donations of vegetables, fruit, meat, cakes, pastry, poultry and produce of any kind will be gratefully accepted. At 7. p.m., in the Municipal Hall, a strong * committee has everything in hand for the last big sale of produce. Large stocks of “farmer killed” prime mutton will be on sale at practically give away prices. A special feature of this effort will be the fine array of home-made pastries of all kinds, and in addition there will be full stocks of every variety of fruit and other cakes. Anyone requiring meat or pastries, etc., can order same by ringing the Air Raid Shelter, [telephone 2338, or Mrs. Gill, 1474. 1 NAVY=NURSING QUEEN DONKEY DERBY. Tomorrow night the last appearance of the donkeys will be made in Masterton when a Donkey Derby will be held at 7 p.m. The race will commence at the Landsdowne School and will finish at the Municipal Hall. Considerable interest is being taken in this unusual event as the jockeys will be nurses with all colours up. The H.M.S. Leander and the Hospital Ship will also be on parade and bids for the Navy-Nursing flag will be taken by the nurses from the hospital ship. CLOSING NIGHT ARRANGEMENTS AT MUNICIPAL HALL. The Masterton Queen Carnival campaign to raise the district’s quota of £BOOO towards the £1,000,000 patriotic appeal will close at 10 o’clock tomorrow night at the Municipal Hall. The hall space has been divided into three parts and representatives of each queen committee have drawn for positions. The committees will organise games, competitions, etc., in their own sections. A board will be erected on the stage on which the position of the queens and the number of votes recorded will be registered. The votes are to be counted and the board altered every 15 minutes. Following final payments by the committees and immediately the figures have been checked, the result will be announced and the successful queen and the other candidates presented to the public. The hall doors will open at 7 o'clock and the Municipal Band will play in the streets and outside the hall between 7 and’ 8 o’clock.
