FEATHERSTON
HOME GUARD SIGNALLING AND RIFLE DRILL. ("Times-Age” Special.) A parade of the Home Guard was held in the Featherston Hall on Tuesday evening. Unit Commander F. S. Hayes was in charge. Signal Instructor J. Halpin took charge of a large class of signallers who' received instruction in both semaphore and Morse. About 40 rifles are now available for the Home Guard and rifle drill was given. Commander Hayes announced that ammunition would be issued at an early date and when this was available practice at the butts would be possible. Stock Drive. A stock drive organised by the Featherston Patriotic Committee will commence on Monday from Kahutara Bridge, Lower Valley, and Mr. Norman Matthews’s, Western Lake. On Tuesday the stock drive will take place in the South Featherston and Tauherepikauu districts. 1 The winners of the Fire Brigade euchre tourney held on Tuesday night were: Mrs. Rewai 1, Miss Nix 2 and Mrs. Watson 1, Mrs. J. Mellish 2. There was a good attendance. Personal. Mr. R. Henderson, who has been an inmate of Kelvin Hospital for the past week or so, has now recovered sufficiently to return to his home. Miss C. Bloxam has received notice of her appointment to a position at the Central Library, Wellington. She will be leaving shortly to take up her duties. Mr. and Mrs. A. Clapshaw, Featherston, announce the engagement of their eldest daughter Kathleen Helen, to Leading Aircraftman Peter J. Wilson, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of the late Mr. John Wilson, Bedford, England, and Mrs. Wilson, Dannevirke.
