£1,000,000 FUND DONATIONS FROM VARIOUS DISTRICTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following is the latest list of district donations for £1.000,000 appeal fund: Gala day £B3l 6s; Carterton Borough £499 Ils sd; Dalefield-Mata-rawa £172 19s sd; Waihakeke £7O 4s 6d; Belvedere £6l 8s; Ponatahi-Ahia-ruhe £3O 18s 6d; Gladstone-East Coast £22 10s; Parkvale £2O 3s 6d; West Taratahi £9 9s; East Taratahi £9 0s 6d; Carrington £7 2s 6d; total £1746 4s lOd, WEDDING MANLEY—NICHOLLS. The marriage took place on Tuesday at the home of Mr and Mrs P. Nicholls, Costley Street, Carterton. of their only daughter, Nola Alice, and John Pattison, eldest son of Mr and Mrs V. T. Manley. The ceremony was performed by the. Rev. W. J. Couling. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was attired in a cream lace frock with a beautifully embroidered tulle veil and wore a triple string of pearls to complete her toilette. She carried a sheaf of white dahlias and pale pink rosebuds. She was attended by Miss Hazel McLean, who wore a rose pink lace frock and a blue tulle halo and carried a bouquet to tone. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Arthur Manley, brother of the bridegroom. A reception was held after the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents when the usual toasts were honoured. Mrs Nicholls, mother of the bride, received the guests, wearing a frock of black georgette and lace and a shoulder spray in shades of gold. She was assisted by Mrs Manley, wearing a clover floral frock with shouldexspray and accessories to tone. Leading Aircraftman J. P. Manley will leave shortly for overseas with the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
WOMEN’S DIVISION BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently in the Masonic Hall, Mrs H. E. Ordish presiding over a good attendance of members. Mention was made of the successful day when the division catered for the tea rooms at the Paddy’s Market. Special thanks were expressed to those who helped by supplying food and to all members and non-members who helped in any other way. Members were asked to bring provisions such as jam, sauce or pickles to the next meeting, these goods to be forwarded to the Y.M.C.A. for patriotic purposes. During the month members picked a large quantity of blackberries, the proceeds of which were donated to the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division patriotic fund. A presentation was made by members to Staff Nurse J. Bond who is going overseas. Nomination were received for officers for the ensuing year. As the next meeting is the annual one it is timed to commence at 1 p.m. The afternoon tea arrangements were undertaken by Members of the Garden Circle. Social. There is likely to be a large attendance of the public at the Bandroom this evening when a social will be tendered to Leading Aircraftman J. Manley, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Bowling. Owing to adverse weather conditions the games scheduled to be played this week by the Carterton Bowling Club have not yet been played but weather permitting the centre championship match will be held on the Carterton greens on Saturday. Scout Committee. There was a large attendance at the 500 tourney held last evening under the auspices of the Carterton Scout movement. The prize winners were as follow: Ladies, Mrs McCarthy 1, Mrs Thomson 2; men, Mr T. Teal 1, Mi’ T. Collerton 2.
