The Rt. Hon P. Fraser, Prime Minister, returned to Wellington from Auckland by air yesterday afternoon. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, member of the War Cabinet, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Sergeant Gordon Duff, formerly of the Bank of New South Wales, Masterton, who is with the First Echelon, has been promoted to second lieutenant. The Rev. M. J. Eade, and Mrs. Eade are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Gaze, Villa Street, Masterton. Mr. Eade, who is on furlough from the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society’s field in north-east India is engaged in a lecture-tour of the Dominion.
Advice has been received by Mr. W. D. Ormond, Wallingford, from the International Red Cross, that his fifth son, Pilot Officer Michael Ormond, who was reported missing on March 5, is a prisoner of war. Pilot Officer Ormond is stated to be wounded, but not seriously.
