DENTAL CLINIC SERVICE

EXTENSION TO STANDARD V. . CHILDREN. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that where facilities were available the services provided by the school dental clinics would be extended to children in Standard V. was made yesterday by the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer. “When the service was inaugurated,” the Minister said, “not sufficient trained nurses were available to care for all the school children in the Dominion, and in order that as many schools . as possible should benefit from the service it was decided that the treatment of children should cease when they passed out of Standard IV. Now, owing to the rapidly increasing number of nurses who have completed the splendid-course of training provided at the two dental clinics in Wellington, it is possible to look after a larger number of children. “Not every school clinic will be able to extend its service to Standard V. children this year. In each case it will depend on the staff and accommodation available, and on considerations that vary from one locality to another. Before long, however, I hope that all old-established school clinics will be attending children up to Standard V., and that it will then be possible to extend the scope of the service still further to include those in Standard VI.”
